The thin layer of endothelial cells that line the entire vascular system of the body, hold the key to heart health stated Dr. Rajesh Rajan in his address to the 2013 annual meeting of the Indian Association of Clinical Cardiologists (IACCCON-2013). These endothelial cells and their function are not properly understood beyond medical experts, and their health has been difficult to measure until recently. These endothelial cells that line every artery in the body would cover an astonishing 14,000 square feet if laid out side by side.
